Cititour Review:
Stepping into Wahoo's I really didn't know what to expect. Instantly I found myself being transformed to the Pacific coast, but instead of surfer dudes it was skateboarder dudes doing their thing on large plasma screens along with skateboard art and lots of stickers on the walls.Tables are awash in aqua blue. There are some wooden booths scattered about, while a bar in the middle provides relief in the form of icy pints of beer. Orders are taken at the counter. A number is dispensed. You then take said number and place it on your table. A waiter arrives a short time later with food and drinks in hand. I was actually surprised at how courteous and friendly the young staff was, delivering food with a smile and inquiring about the meal without being overbearing.
My meal began with two tacos. While there are chicken, pork and vegetarian options I opted for seafood; one fish and one shrimp. Both were presented beautifully, layered with shredded cheddar, some slaw and a lively tomato salsa. A spicy green sauce that looked more like mayo than a true salsa verde was drizzled on top and provided just the right amount of heat. The marinated shrimps beneath all of those layers were small, yet plump and juicy (perhaps even more surprising each had been deveined). Then I bit into my namesake fish taco, which my server informed me was actually made with Wahoo, a mild white fish from the South Pacific that is similar to mahi mahi and goes by the name Ono in Hawaii. It was light and moist with a distinct fish flavor and much better than I was expecting. So good, it was gone in approximately three bites. Next time I would probably order a side of rice and beans which also looked tasty.
The only thing still puzzling me about Wahoo's is I'm not quite sure what it actually is? Is it a fast food joint or a bona fide sit-down restaurant? And while you might be tempted not to leave a tip, I suggest you do, if you want to continue to see those smiles.
